Meet Barry Jay

image My love for radio started back in 1964 when my parents gave me with a 6-watt transistor radio for Christmas! It ran on an Eveready silver PP9 battery, remember those?

Before this I listened to the BBC Light Programme, with Jack Jackson.

Suddenly with my tranny I struck gold ! The “Big L Fab 40 chart”, and the number one was the Beatles! I was totally hooked, and the little radio never left my side for years.
I was born in London and in the 70s and 80s I ran a mobile disco and had lots of fun but we had to stop when we were looking old and decrepit! I was a television engineer for 40 years, but all this time my main interest has been Radio.

I should have done something about it many years ago but I have now at the grand age of 62, and been given a wonderful opportunity to play some of your great musical memories on JukeBox Saturday night, on a radio station that I’m passionate about. It’s as good as “Big L” that I listened to all those years ago. I hope we’ll enjoy our time together.

Barry now presents the 1960's Café weekday lunchtimes at Noon.

Plus Barry also brings you ‘Down the Decades’ - three hours going back through the 70s at 9pm, the 60s at 10pm and 50s at 11pm on a Friday night and also from 9pm - midnight Saturday with the Saturday Night Jukebox!
